re:solve training

The training division of Shekinah has provided therapeutic wrap around support, training and qualifications to ex-offenders and those socially excluded, homeless or with substance misuse issues since 1997.  Initially a few classes run by volunteers, Shekinah’s training provision has evolved dramatically into a specialist department led by dedicated and highly skilled teams in Plymouth, Torbay and Exeter.

24 in Plymouth,  re:solve training’s head office was officially opened in 2010.  Learners themselves were instrumental in the construction and development of ‘24’, a name which is eponymous to its location on Stonehouse Street.  Many learners gave up their own time to help renovate the new site and repair the vacated premises, using skills learnt in training as well as gaining new ones ‘on the job’.  It now provides a fantastic space for learning as well as the headquarters for Shekinah Trading and the Charity’s employability team.

Each year re:solve equips some 200 local people with construction, fitness and personal development skills, enabling them to plaster, paint, decorate, get creative and manage their way out of their chaotic lives and establish independence, emotional and physical stability.  Its youth work also focuses on engaging 13 – 19 year olds, encouraging them back into education through learner led, bite sized taster activities in music, film and media.

Shekinah’s re:solve training programmes continually evolve to help the Individual move on in all areas of their lives.    Past experiences are explored and issues that may have affected self-esteem and hindered them from securing work or from moving on in life are addressed.

Shekinah’s training centres in Plymouth and Torbay offer training in bricklaying, plastering, painting and decorating.  They hold workshops in music; photography, budgeting, stress & anger, personal development, relationships, household skills, creative writing, internet and word processing for beginners; health and fitness, new and emerging technologies; retail and customer service and activities and trips designed to engage youth.

Many of Shekinah’s courses are accredited through the National Open College Network (NOCN) and City & Guilds.  These qualifications are nationally recognised and enable the learner to progress into further education or other vocational training.

re:solve also offers bespoke personal development programmes tailored to specific agency needs, as well as a robust sector related training programme which is open to all agencies.
