Employment

We support those individuals with multiple disadvantage into employment.  This is achieved through a tailored and supportive programme.

“We give clients the extended time, emotional support and constant engagement they need to make positive change and achieve sustainable employment.  Our funding enables us to work on each individual barrier that prevents the client from moving forward, allowing them to make progress at their own pace.” Soo Brizell-Hogg, Head of Employability, Shekinah.

The hardest to reach (ex-offenders, former addicts, the low skilled and long term unemployed) are amongst those who are empowered by Shekinah’s training and employment departments.

Shekinah’s employment programmes

Ready for Work

Shekinah works in partnership with Business in the Community’s Business Action on Homelessness (BAOH), a business-led campaign that supports homeless people to gain and sustain employment.

BAOH’s flagship Ready for Work programme, through the support of businesses, hostels and agencies in Plymouth and across the UK and Ireland, delivers pre-employment training, work placements and post-placement job coaching to homeless people. Since the partnership with BAOH began, Shekinah has supported 223 people onto Ready for Work in the region.

Plymouth Sustainable Employment Programme (PSEP)

This is a 52 week paid traineeship, underpinned by continual assessment and structured support.  PSEP has a very high success rate - culminating in full time sustainable employment and building healthier, confident, self-sufficient and fully participative members of society.

PSEP provides a social and economic return to the wider community, enables businesses and organisations to support the marginalised in society and addresses the local worklessness and homelessness agenda.  It also improves staff morale, with many existing employees using the programme to develop their training and leadership skills. Shekinah’s structured support in work placements and employment makes exercising corporate social responsibility a walk in the park.

How can your business or organisation get involved?  If you can provide a work placement, host pre-employment training, assist with mock interviews or discuss future vacancies please get in touch with Soo Brizell Hogg at Shekinah on 01752 223 185.

Read Shekinah’s PSEP report:  Shekinah’s innovative employability pilot scheme finds a way to break the benefits, poverty and recidivism cycle with a fluid, client centred approach.  Shekinah can provide support to help deliver the PSEP model in your area, please contact Soo Brizell-Hogg for details.
